Returning Richness to the Land
Well, this could be just another Cinderella story, but this is reality for Rodolfo Chico of Bago City, Negros Occidental.
After being a stowaway for a decade, Rodolfo started farming in 1979. Having only P500 savings from being a jeepney driver, he started buying palay at P38 per cavan for his rented farmland. And after 16 years of hardwork, he was finally able to buy a land. In 2002, when the net income from palay dropped, he decided to concentrate on cultivating his 2-hectare farm and his 10-hectare rented farm. He got 8 tons/ ha yield from rice and 80 tons/ha yield from sugarcane, and the earnings from these enable him to support the education of his four children.
