Agriculture Business Week

The MFI Foundation (formerly Meralco Foundation) is offering to out-of-school youth (OSY) a new dual training program in agricultural entrepreneurship at the MFI Farm Business Institute (MFI-FBI)a campus in Jala-jala, Rizal.

The program aims to motivate out-of-school youth from farming families to get into agribusiness which presents a host of business opportunities that can lead to industrial food businesses in communities.

With emphasis on hands-on training, MFI-FBI will offer post-secondary certificate courses on crop production, animal production, aquaculture, postharvest processing, farm mechanics and irrigation, food processing and packaging, and agricultural logistics.

Nasugbu, Batangas — A total of 85 participants in the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan-Farmers Training program finished the livelihood training program initiated by SM Foundation with its partner agencies that include Harbest Agribusiness Corporation, Department of Agriculture, the provincial government of Batangas with the Nasugbu local government and the Cooperative Development Authority, among others.

The participants included farmers from the barangays of Bulihan, Calayo, Papaya, Looc, Putat, Kaylaway and Wawa in Nasugbu.

As is the usual practice during Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan graduation events, a harvest festival was held. Farm produce like honeydew, lettuce, sweet corn, melon, watermelon, solo squash, cucumber and bitter melon were available for sale.

The Culinary Education Foundation (CEF), the social arm of the Cravings Group of Companies, takes a “greener” step by promoting that a zero-waste lifestyle is not only a way of life, but can also boost income and aid in the livelihood of people especially in times of economic crisis.

The CEF is currently conducting livelihood seminars that offer tips on recycling programs that promote unique and modern ways of starting one’s own business – using the greener approach.

The training programs, which began last August at the Kaingin Ecology Center in Barangay Pansol, Kaingin 1, runs every Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 noon until October 2009. All courses are scheduled at weekly intervals.
