Center for Food and Agri Business 2010 Mid-Year Conference

The Center for Food and Agri Business (CFA) of the University of Asia and the Pacific is pleased to invite you to its MID-YEAR FOOD AND AGRI BUSINESS CONFERENCE with the theme “Philippine Agriculture and Fishery: Moving Towards a Balanced Growth.” This will be held on July 15, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the PLDT Hall, 4/F APEC Bldg, UA&P, Ortigas Center , Pasig City .

Harvest Festival In Quezon City

A three-day Agri-Aqua Harvest Festival will be held on July 16 to 18 at the Quezon Memorial Circle as a special feature of the celebration of the 14th anniversary of AANI or Agri-Aqua Network International.

The festival will be some kind of a trade show where individual farmers and farmers’ groups will be displaying their products. The event is being supported by the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), according to Pol Rubia of AANI.

He said that farmers’ groups from Quezon, Batangas, Laguna, Bulacan, Cavite and others have reserved space to showcase their products and services. Their participation is being sponsored by the Department of Agriculture and BFAR.

National Hog Convention Slated In Davao City

The 19th Hog Convention and Trade Exhibits will be staged on April 8 to 10 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in Davao City, hosted by the Davao Hog Farmers Association, Inc. It is organized annually by the Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines or ProPork (formerly the National Federation of Hog Farmers, Inc.).

This year’s theme, “Ensuring survival through efficiency and improved pork production,” will educate participants with practical and technical information and tips from experts – helping them secure the safety and profitability of their farms.

The annual event – the biggest and longest-running trade exhibition focusing on the swine industry, gathers thousands of commercial and backyard hog raisers from all over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Pig, Poultry & Dairy Focus Asia 2010

With good early bookings, all the signs are that there will be another well attended Pig, Poultry & Dairy Focus Asia 2010. This event is now perceived as Asia ’s leading independent technical conference for anyone involved in modern pig, poultry and dairy production and attracts production managers, QA managers, nutritionists and veterinarians. Organic Gardening In Horti 2010 Lectures

Ideas in organic gardening and how to survive under climate change will be among the top topics in the daily lectures that will be held in conjunction with Horticulture 2010, the annual garden show of the Philippine Horticultural Society to be held on January 29 to February 8.

The lectures will be held at the Greenhouse No. 2 of the Manila Seedling Bank at the corner of EDSA and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City, according to Wendy Regalado, PHS president.

On January 30, at 10 a.m., Tony de Castro will lecture on vermiculture for organic gardening while at 2 p.m., Pearl Banaag, president of World Flower Council, will demonstrate avant garde floral arrangement.

Bamboo Seminar Set Nov. 26-29

A bamboo rehavilitation and nursery establishment seminar-workshop will be conducted by bamboo expert Romualdo Sta. Ana and the MFI Farm Business Institute (MFI-FBI) from November 26 to 29 in Jala-jala, Rizal.

The seminar comes on the heels of Sta. Ana’s bamboo presentation at the recent Agrilink trade show held at the World Trade Center Metro Manila.

Participants will be taught about the proper care and management of bamboo as a natural resource with a lot of business potential. This will be the third seminar on bamboo rehabilitation organized by MFI-FBI in the Jala-jala Farmers’ Training Center.

MFI-FBI is an operating arm of MFI Foundation, Inc. (formerly Meralco Foundation) that aims to serve as a catalyst for developing agri-entrepreneurship by filling the gap in education in the agribusiness sector.

Environmental Garden Show Set On Nov. 20 to 30 In Quezon City

Flash flood, deaths of humans as well as animals, and damage to properties and many other wanton destruction of our environment are believed to be some of the ill effects of climate change.

With this in mind, the Cactus and Succulent Society of the Philippines (CSSP) will be presenting a flower and garden show with the theme “Gardening for a Better Environment” from November 20 to 30 at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City. This is in cooperation with the Quezon Memorial Circle management headed by Engr. Zaldy dela Rosa.

Kevin Belmonte, an avid collector of rare cacti and succulents, and CSSP president Dorie S. Bernabe are co-chair of the overall show. They said that a commercial section will also be a feature of the show where Christmas gift shoppers can buy their favorite gifts for their loved ones and friends The commercial section is where plant growers and suppliers of gardening inputs can sell their products. There are still available commercial spaces for interested sellers, according to Dorie S. Bernabe.

SMFI Inks MOA With Agrilink 2009

Southeast Asia’s largest publicly listed food, beverage, and packaging company San Miguel Foods, Inc.’s (SMFI) recently signed with the Foundation for Resource Linkage and Development (FRLD) to formalize their support and participation for this year’s Agrilink, Foodlink and Aqualink.

Mushroom Seminar Set October 3

A whole day seminar on mushroom production is scheduled this Saturday, October 3, at the AANI Urban Farm at Kingsville Court, Antipolo City. The place is near Sumulong Highway.

Teddy Laurie who is an expert in producing spawns as well as growing the crop will conduct the seminar right at the AANI Urban Farm where he has put up a facility to produce planting materials, particularly fruiting bags of oyster mushroom.

Fruiting bags produced by Laurie are of such quality that they can remain productive for as long as eight months, according to him. Some fruiting bags from other sources usually remain productive for only a few weeks or months.
